Unfortunately There Is Video Capturing The Moments Immediately Following The Will Smith Tragedy4/11/2016 BSO- More pieces of the puzzle about what happened in the tragic murder of Ex-Saints Will Smith are coming together.
In this video by NOLA.com that was taken right after the shooting by a bystander you can hear a witness describe the hectic scene. There was an accident, argument and then according to the witness Smith stated he had a gun and Cardell Hayes’ response to that was to shoot him in the back. It should be noted that the cops only found one gun at the scene and that was Hayes’ gun. Oh, there's video. Of course there's video. Why wouldn't there be video? There's always fucking video. What does this video in particular provide us? Exactly what we were hoping for, MORE QUESTIONS! And not just any questions, questions that have come about because of the haphazard eyewitness testimony of an overwhelmed bystander. You know, basically the most legitimate type of questions possible. Did Will Smith say he had a gun? Did Will Smith actually have a gun? Did he have any intent to use this hypothetical gun? I suppose - given the lengthy criticisms of city wide gun control and community safety (or lack thereof) by Drew Brees and Sean Payton - that it wouldn't be the most shocking thing in the world if Will Smith possessed a firearm to protect himself and his family. However, I am HIGHLY suspicious that he would have actually used it against some enraged moron playing bumper cars throughout the streets of New Orleans. Whatever, that is as far as I intend to go in determining the potential thought process of a slain man. Especially one that was so universally loved and respected by those he came in contact with. Not only is it not fair to the people he is survived by to try to determine a bunch of 'what ifs', but it also just doesn't fucking matter all that much. No amount of footage is bringing Will Smith back from the dead. Deflecting blame isn't going to give a grieving wife her husband back, or three children their father back. If we are going to deal strictly in facts then it's fair to say that New Orleans has a major gun problem, and it's directly responsible for the untimely death of one their most beloved citizens. A citizen that by all accounts had a very bright future ahead of him. A future that has now been stolen from him because of an utterly foolish and unnecessary act of violence. An act of violence whose instigation I am not all that interested in discussing, but an act of violence which I would like to put in the rearview as we celebrate the memory of it's victim. A victim that undoubtedly deserved a better fate, no matter what you believe happened that night.
