Guardian- Bic South Africa posted the ad on its Facebook page to celebrate national women’s day. Showing a smiling woman in a suit with arms folded, it read: “Look like a girl, act like a lady, think like a man, work like a boss #HappyWomensDay.”
The post was eventually deleted as commentators expressed disgust. “Look like a girl?’ Because the infantilisation of women and the sexualisation of children is exactly the kind of blurred line we need!”, read one, the Sunday Times in Johannesburg reported. “Why am I expected to look like a child? Why am I expected to see the world through a masculine lens? Why am I expected to ‘think like a man’ but not expected to ‘act like a man’ on my so-called manly thoughts?” wrote another. Among those taking to Twitter to condemn the advert, feminist activist Caroline Criado-Perez, who campaigned for a female face on UK banknotes, tweeted: “What fresh hell is this” and “srsly, ‘think like a man’...*stabs eyes out with bic pen*”. I fully admit that, as a nationwide brand, Bic has got to be smarter than this. There's just no way that in a feminist fueled 2015 you can get away with encouraging women to think like a man. Especially not on "Woman's Day", if that's even a real thing. I thought you had to be the one responsible for throwing in some extremely fertile sperm or crapping out another human life before you got an entire day to celebrate your gender, but that is neither here nor there. I guess my question is why is it such a problem that it's beneficial to think like a man, but women have no problem with being encouraged to look and act like a woman? Hell, we are progressive now. "Work like a boss" is a gender neutral phrase. By my count, that gives women 2.5 superior characteristics, and men 1.5. Okay, fine. It's really more like 2.25 to 1.75, but regardless, the ladies are winning. This is like a head coach complaining about a call after his team just won the game. Don't be so disingenuous. How about you show a little respect and compassion for the loser. Can't we at least get a "....5,6,7,8, who do we appreciate?!" chant? Try to win with class for once in your lives before we have to reconsider that whole "act like a lady" thing. I am willing to concede looks. Generally speaking, women are far easier on the eyes than men. I will even concede mannerisms to ladies. Society has come along way, but at the end of the day modern men are just one step ahead of cavemen. If we had our way (AKA if we didn't have to worry about attracting women) we would eat our food with one hand, and have the other hand permanently affixed to our cocks. However, I will be damned if I concede thinking to women. We, as men, have to take a stand somewhere. That's not even to say that women are intellectually inferior. As a matter of fact, I think women are smarter than men. Men, on the other hand, are undoubtedly better at processing that information. How many times have you ended up in a conversation with a woman that exceeded the bounds of rational thought and you sat there thinking "I know she is smarter than this". It happens all the time. It's not your fault ladies. There are things that you are born into that make it extremely difficult to think logically. Those things include emotions, estrogen, menstruation, or some combination of any and all of those phenomenons. Men are simple creatures. It doesn't make us smarter, but it does make us better at deciphering the little amount of knowledge that we do have with a clear head. It may seem sexist to tell women to think like the brasher sex on their day of celebration, but I promise the fairer sex wold be a lot happier if they did. P.S. Such a female thing to do to focus on the negatives instead of the positives.
