WVU Kicked Two PLayers Off The Team Immediately After They Got Out Of The Hospital For Stab Wounds9/17/2015 BSO- Two West Virginia University football players were dismissed from the team after breaking team rules. Most college coaches do not make team rules available to the public so there is no way to know which rule was broken as of now.
Coach Dana Holgorsen announced the decision on Monday night, after both players were released from the hospital after being stabbed on Sunday morning. Redshirt freshman defensive end Tyree Owens and walk-on running back Kenyatta Greene, were released from the hospital on Sunday night after receiving stab wounds from a 22-year old basketball player from DII University Alderson Broaddus. “Due to a violation of team rules, Tyree Owens and Kenyatta Greene are no longer part of the football team,” WVU associate athletic director Michael Fragale said in a statement. “We are appreciative of the efforts of the Morgantown Police Department and thankful that those identified will make a full recovery.” You break the rules, you pay the price. Trust me, as a Rutgers fan that has spent the last month grasping at air in hopes of maintaining any semblance of school pride, no one knows better than me. I don't think there is any doubt that these two kids that got stabbed by a basketball player from a DII school were partially responsibly for their wounds. You just don't end up in a situation where a switchblade is in your side, at the hands of another athlete, without breaking some level of team protocol. Especially if you attend the glorified high school that is West Virginia University. So, yeah, as much as it sucks that they got axed from the team, it was the right move. With that said, could Dana Holgorsen be any more cold-blooded? Why even wait to see if they are alive and well? He might as well have ran up in their hospital room and pushed the knife in a little deeper before giving it an authoritative twist. That's basically what he did anyway by booting a couple kids off the team like five minutes after they got their torsos stitched together. I am not saying that injured players, whose lives were moderately in danger, should be granted an exemption from discipline, but couldn't he have waited like a day? Maybe let them sit through some team meetings, or watch a practice from the sidelines. At least give them a 24 hour period to realize the severity of their actions before taking away pretty much everything they have to live for? I suppose it's better to get all the bad news out of the way at once, but Jesus, Dana Holgorsen pretty much ripped the band-aid off and left them to bleed out in the middle of street. Oh well, at least that's not a feeling that they are completely unfamiliar with... P.S. See ESPN, other schools have problems too! ::crosses fingers that more WVU student athletes get non-lethally stabbed before Saturday::
